As I lay in bed last nite, I had a moment of doubt [a moment]. Am I nuts? Will some, if not most, scoff at this and look at it as a gimmick? I think some will, and if they do, that's there right. But if you scoff, please don't write me and Pino. We are just trying to be kind, bake a pie, give it away, enjoy a day together, make a lonely house bound person feel remembered.
By morning, I had a head full of many ideas, where Pino and I could go, what his future trailer will look like [we need to sell a lot of Pino's garage Sale items for that, but we will, pennies add up], so a night's rest made my dream once again seem somewhat sane.
How it works:
Now, for starters, Pino and I want people all over to act as Pino's Pie ambassadors by baking a pie from scratch, and hand delivering it to someone. Then I want them to write Pino by email, or by donkey mail, and tell us about their experience with a photo [non-returnable]; make sure you put your name on the back of it. My hope is to make a collection of these [with permission].
Make sure you send a mailing address with your letter or email - Pino likes to send surprises to those that share.
Some ideas of places to take your pie:
Seek out an individual in a hospice or elder care facility, pick a neighbor you've never talked to, how about the elderly woman living alone on the block, your hairdresser, the fed ex man, your teacher, your librarian, the gas station guy that always does you a favor. Your mother, your father, the sister you never see. Maybe you can get your entire office, or class, to make a bunch of pies and deliver them.
I've also made some Pino Pie items over at my Café Press shop - pie recipe journals, aprons, totes to go to the farmer's market for your ingedrients, and more, including Pino's latest expression that pie making is in itself an antithesis to making war. All proceeds will go into Pino's secret saving bucket in the barn.
Note: As much as Pino likes pies, I ask that you DO NOT SEND PINO A PIE. However, he accepts carrots [especially the ones that Oakhill Organics grows], so he would gladly accept those anyway they are sent or delivered.
Buy local fruit when possible, or go to your farmer's market and buy local butter or other items. Pino does ask that you MAKE YOUR DOUGH FROM SCRATCH. We are not going to get into the butter versus Crisco debate - that is your choice, but a hand made crust is a must to be a proper Pino Pie Ambassador. Messy crusts are a delight!
OK, this is the start of it...

How about the Homeless too.
I am not that great at making a
pie crust but I have made really
good Apple Bars. Oh they are so
good. I had taken care of a farm
last fall and picked the apples and
blackberries. They don't spray the
trees or berries. I had frozen some
of each.
This is such a Great idea.
Warmly,
Flassie
Hi Pino! I am not much of a baker , but I am going to give it a shot sometime soon! I do have a great recipe for peach sour cream pie..if I can find it!
i love you pino! you are brilliant.
What a wonderful, wonderful idea!! And very do-able...and personalized...and a piece of "home"
Hooray for both the givers and the receivers!
Hello Pino, what a gorgeous idea. I´ve made a pie today (right now I´m waiting that the frosting hardens) and will hand it to a children´s home across the our road today. Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea!
Yea, Friederika!!!!!
Our first german pie ambassador!
Pino is thrilled - now, I hope you can take a picture from the children's home? I am collecting people's pie sharings, and hope to make a book of it someday. Please share if you can - We would love this.
Thankyou for making our day brighter, and making a pie.
Love from Pino and the farm
